Port of Vukovar (Luka Vukovar d.o.o.) was founded on Januray 1st 1960. as an independed compay by separating from national shipping company named Dunavski Loyd from Sisak. Since then, the company has changed owner and legal form several times, and since April 2002 it has been operating as an independent 100% state-owned company “Port of Vukovar”, created by separating from the current significant agro – industrial parent company Vupik d.d.

Port of Vukovar (Luka Vukovar d.o.o.) is the only river port in Croatia located on the right side of the Danube River, which by its navigability class VIc in this area alowes the availability of navigation 365 days a year. According to the European Agreement on Main Waterways of International Importance (AGN; OG 16/98) Luka-Vukovar has the technical characteristics of the E port. Also it has status of an international port, has economic importance for the Republic of Croatia and also has a protection of government. The total port area is 38,5 hectares, while the length of the operational coast, which includes four berths, is 450m.
There are three operational railway tracks in the port area for ship-to-shore handling and loading/unloading of general and scattered cargo. The port internal road system consists of a main road, a weather-protected terminal for the handling with materials, and an economic route for the container terminal, which provides access to the public road for each terminal or building.
Current capacities allow for an annual transhipment of goods of about 1,200,000 – 1,500,000 t, depending on the type of cargo. In intermodal European traffic, Port of Vukovar ( Luka Vukovar d.o.o.) has become important bridge between internal European waterways, from the Danube through Croatian territory to the Mediterranean and on that account gaining immeasurable economic and transport importance, not only for Croatia but also for Europe.
Also, Port of Vukovar (Luka Vukovar d.o.o.) is from the middle of 2018. included in a project of the Ministry of Regional Development and European Union funds named Smart Port whose goal is to increase efficiency through digitalization and new environmentally advanced technologies.
