In Vukovar on May 11,2023., was held the third event between largest river port in Croatia, Port of Vukovar Ltd and the Romanian Port of Constantza with the aim to present the results of the previous business cooperation . The event was also an opportunity to celabrate 60 years of exinstence of Port of Vukovar Ltd.
Comercial Director of Port of Constantza George Gabriel Visan, signatory to the Memorandum of understanding between two ports from 2015. expressed satisfaction of previous cooperation and hopes for new business opportunities offered by Croatia’s entry into the Schengen area.
The event also served as a opportunity for further development of business cooperation and stating possibilities of future projects funded by EU. It was stated that in the past business period two major situations marked businnes in EU – Covid 19 and war in Ukraine. These two facts marked out the complete business environment of all companies that are using „Blue highway“ and resulted in change of logistic routes which the most affected inland ports.
During the event, port representatives mentioned how important modernization is with the aim of increasing the competitiveness of ports.
Speaking about the event, general manager of Port of Vukovar Marijan Kuprešak expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation so far, stating that the Port of Constantza is a very important partner because over 90 percent of activities are connected with it. He added that this event also is opportunity for businessmen in Slavonia and beyond to recognize the goods and cargo that go trough the port and on that way to expand their own business.
The support of the event was provided by Ministry of Economy represented by the Principal Directorate for Industry, Entrepreneurship and Crafts Robert Blažinović in the name of the Minister Davor Filipović and congradulated to all employees of Port of Vukovar Ltd 60 – th birthday. He also underlined the importance of Port of Vukovar Ltd for the whole Croatian economy and stated increasing the amount of excange between Republic of Croatia and Republic of Romania.
Milan Plećaš, principal of Center for restructuring and sale (CERP), Romanian Embassy representative Valentina Cobzareanu, as wel as representative of City of Vukovar Kristina Bilić, representative of Vukovar – Srijem County Marija Budimir and many other partners participated in this business event. About 120 current and potential business partners gathered in Vukovar who recognized the importance of ports and their potential.
The representative of City of Vukovar Kristina Bilić stated that there is a lot of interest in the furter development of cooperation, and also sees an opportunity to create better conditions for attracting investitors and developing economy trough the navigability potential of the Danube 365 days a year.
Marija Budimir from the Vukovar – Srijem County, also expressed her satisfaction with the cooperation so far and sees potential in reviving trade ties and the initiation of new economic projects. The Port of Vukovar employs 60 workers, is in concession until 2026., its located on the Danube river which is navigable troughout the entire year and is located near rail and road transport making it an investment potential.
