With the aim of strengthening cooperation in the economic field and developing logistics routes and capacities through increasing traffic between the Republic of China and Croatia, our company in Vukovar, on September 10, received a delegation from the Republic of China and held an official meeting led by Deputy Governor Jin Hui from the Chinese province of Hebei with her associates.
The Chinese delegation visited the Port of Vukovar and a working meeting was held between our company, led by the port director Marijan Kuprešak together with his associates, and the Chinese delegation led by the Deputy Governor of Hebei Province, Jin Hui.
The signing of the Cooperation Agreement, which predicts better coordination of railway and multimodal transport on the route PR China – Europe, was signed by our company this June with the Chinese company Hebei Logistic, at the initiative of the company Special Economic Zone d.o.o. from Zagreb.
The delegation from Hebei Province expressed its intention to deepen cooperation in the field of rail and multimodal transport, establish coordinated development of industrial parks near airports, and consider the possibility of increasing the market exchange of goods and services between China and Croatia.
Due to the war in Ukraine, around 80 percent of the port capacity that we offer as infrastructure for international transport has been freed up, which was also discussed during the meeting, and it is for this reason that our company, led by Director Kuprešak, has begun discussions and development of legal frameworks in China with the aim of establishing a new container route along the Danube River: Black Sea-Constanta-Vukovar Port.
“We would like to establish a logistics hub in the Port of Vukovar where containers for the import and export of goods would be stored. The Port has lost 60 percent of its revenue in the last three years, since the war in Ukraine. We saw this as a great opportunity for the further development of the Port, and they saw their opportunity for a new concession period starting in March 2026 and the next 20 years for joint investments and investments. This is an excellent opportunity to fill the current and future capacities for the Port of Vukovar,” said Director Kuprešak after the meeting.
Port of Vukovar as a company currently has the capacity to accept 200 containers and possesses all the necessary infrastructure and equipment for loading and unloading goods, which further confirms the potential of the Port as an important factor for the development of the region.
